Default blue smoke

Hello fellow quality car owners

I got a bit of a problem with my audi.

I heard my engine sounding abit weird so i checked the oil level, and suprise it was almost empty (about 5000 km before the next service interval). So after i refilled it i got some blue smoke out of the back after driving about 10km or so.Its been a week and im still getting blue smoke.

Other then the blue smoke everything works like new, no overheating,no power loss,...

However, today i noticed oil on my alternator, and upon further close inspection i saw it leeking from the side of the engine block (where the bottom and top are screwd together).

after searching thru the forums i got abit confused..could it be the head gasket or the piston rings or something else?

i can post pictures of where the oil leaks from.

sorry for the long read and thank you

regars, zw

Could be either of those or a cracked head, or cracked block. If it were my I'd put thicker weight oil in it and drive it checking the oil frequently until the blue smoke becomes intolerably bad (which could be years from now), at which point I'd throw in a used engine.

I have the exact same problem on mine and have ben driving it for a long time in this condition...There is an oil leak somewhere on the top front of the engine, seems almost like its coming from under the power steering pump. Oil runs down onto the alternator and on the RR of the engine onto the trans and cat converters. Oil leak seems more intense during road trips, 200 miles= 1 qt of oil. In city driving it is very minor. Like i said I've had this a long time, been using a bit heavier oil esp. in the summer to try and contain the leak a bit. As to the source of the leak..clueless.

blue smoke could be from too much oil added..it could also be caused from valve stem seals..if it smokes especially when you cold start it or after coming to a stop...most likely valve seats/valve stem seals..same thing
