Really, I have both and find the C4 much easier to work on and cheaper to keep
cheaper TB
cheaper suspension maint
easy to access everything
rarely breaks anway
Why do you suggest C5/B5 ( altho they are nicer)

I would agree with the others, go C4....
I've owned both a C4 and currentley my B5. The amount of space is the C4 is a definate plus. Carrying my friends around in the back of the B5 isn't always fun. Of course its my friends in the back and not me.
The C4 is definatley more user friendly in terms of DIY work, plus you don't have the control arm issue, that another member mentioned, as with the B5.
I love my B5, but for a 19 year old girl, the C4 is probably a better choice. Good Luck.

used parts are a LOT more scarce and pricey. plus, the transmissions in the
pre-facelifts are their Achilles heel...I hold my breath every day. Other than that, I love my D2.

I had an 2001 S8,
wonderful car. I have to get a new one as soon as I can. Sold my D2 S8 to a friend. Right before that dealer put a brand new trany in it after only 135k. Car was in the dealer for more than a month so they can find a new trany for me. It was covered under my warranty but trany is the main issues with the D2 A8. I replaced the trany oil at dealer at 100k with the filters. You might get smoked by the price of the trany without warranty. Stay away from A8/S8 D2.

Re: I think you answered your own question. C4.
I bought my 16 year old son a 1996 Audi A6 quattro, the car had 112k miles, four years later, it has 172k miles, have done a transmission fluid change, changed ignition key, repair some minor oil leaks, bought new tires, and yesterday finished a timing belt job, in all, I think I have spent about $1,300 on maintenance charges. I paid $6,000 for that car.
I am very satisfied with the performance of the car and my 20 year old son drives it everyday. I would probably buy the same car, same model if need be.
