Anybody have any luck with a FWD car?
I'm looking at purchasing a well maintained 92 100CS FWD w/240k miles. I currently have a 96 Avant Q w/105k miles and I love it. Are the FWD models decent in the snow? Is the gas mileage much better?

I had one....
a 92 100CS FWD that had 220k miles on it when I sold it.
It was just like any other fwd in the snow. I put snows on mine and never had a problem getting around town in it.
the FWD's seem more nimble and light to me. count on a few extra MPGs.
I'd go for it if it's a manual transmission, leave it if it has the early auto trans with the 'sport' button, and look it over closely if it has the later auto trans....the auto trans is probably the weakest link on the car.
That being said, I truly enjoyed the one I drove for 1.5 years or so.
but, as someone pointed out previously, a non-quattro Audi is just another nice German car.
It's not Alpine white with a black leather interior, is it?

The $750 one from Audifans? Seems like an OK deal.
The FWD cars are decent. That car has the early sport-button trans, which was prone to issues, but if it test drives fine, it should be OK for basic transportation.

We have had the "Frontrack" for 11 years now.
Milage is better. I have gotten as much as 34 MPG (drive 55-60 with the a good wind at your back)
It is a "lighter more nimble" feel.
No real issues with regular snow (snow tires help a ton). It will not cut through deep snow for very long..at least not like the Q.
Never had an issue with the trans on ours. Over 220k now.
I would buy another in a second if I needed one.

All three of the Audis I've have been/are FWD: '81 4000S 5+5, '87 5000S, & '96 A6 Avant,...
with the latter being the current model. I have driven all of them into the mountains with snow and really haven't had any problems getting where I intended to go. Only negative is that when the "Chains Required" signs are posted here in WA state, I need to install approved a traction device, where a Quattro isn't required to install chains since it is all-wheel drive.
For my '96 A6 Avant, I have been getting about 22 MPG with mixed city/highway driving. For highway driving only at ~70 MPH crusing speed, I usually get over 24 MPG, which is ~1 MPG more than the EPA estimates for that model year.
