I am looking into purchasing a 1999 volvo does anyone have any background with this vehicle? If anyone can help me out with a carfax report that would be greatly appreciated. The VIN is YV1TS97D2X1013092.

Hi there,

Please note that I have no direct personal experience here. However, my wife is interested in Volvos, so I've done a little bit of research.

There are a couple of Volvo oriented sites somewhat like AW (can't seem to recall the names or find any saved links on my machine unfortunately...) and I did a bit of lurking & searching about a year ago.

Possible I'm not remembering correctly, but I seem to recall seeing a number of references to staying away from '99 (and maybe '00) S80's from folks on there as opposed to models that came after.

I'd suggest trying to find these sites and doing some reading up on it. All I know is I came away from the bit of research with the idea in my head that I wouldn't want one older than '01 or '02.

I know from personal experience and from other site info. My '99 S80 experience was horrible, rebuilt the tranny at 75K, and electrical gremlins that would make any Audi owner go out and shoot themselves right in the face(thats rather graphic isn't it). Even Volvo could not(would not) fix it. All of this luck from a car with a perfect service history at Volvo, excellent care from the previous owners(who I know very well), 60K miles at purchase. Car was sold at a great loss with just over 80K miles.

I will not be back at Volvo anytime soon.....
