hello All;
My new (800 miles) A4 exhibits mild but noticeable rattles and resonant hum from the dashboard when certain music plays on the stock Concert radio. It seems to correspond to lower frequencies, but I have not had a chance to do a sweep with a tone generator. I don't count out the possibility that the speaker housings themselves are doing the rattling, but it sounds a lot like it's coming from the middle of the dash where the air vents are.
I welcome any helpful suggestions and comments
thanks,
-K. but I have never heard any rattling or noise from the middle of the dash. I hate this system!!
RobS
98 1.8T QMS
My '91 Ford Escort rattles & hums something fierce with my aftermarket system -- very VERY annoying because it detracts so strongly from the music. I was gonna transplant the system directly into a new A4, and I just assumed that these problems would go away. Now you're telling me they won't? Is this typical or do only you and RobS have this problem?

I thought I could detect the same rattle a few weeks ago but was uncertain. Sometimes seemed to be from front passenger door speaker area, other times from center air vents. Always while using the stereo. Just this past week the noise seemed to disappear at the speaker but then two days later REALLY raised an ugly head at the center vents (even with the stereo off). The first time the car is started on a cold morning, the idle is higher and richer from the cold, the rattle is very prominent. I can put my hand on the dash anywhere under, over, or around the vents to silence the rattle.
I hate rattles.
I've had tons of rattles with this car. Driver's door, passenger rear door, driver C pillar, dash, passenger A pillar. I no longer think of my A4 as a great car but as an overpriced VW. AoA doesn't seem to care that I'm dissatisfied with paying more than $30k for a car with the build quality of a Kia. I figured if I bought a more expensive car than the ones I've had before, I'd have very few or no rattles to put up with. If I'd have only known, I'd probably got a BMW or a Japan Inc. transport.
I have just over 6k miles on this thing, and I do love driving it. I just can't reccomend one to anyone unless they just don't notice these things.
