I'm considering chipping my new 99.5 A4. If you've chipped AND have your car serviced in the L.A. area by a dealer (Ogner Motors, Downtown Audi or Beverly Hills Audi) let me know your experiences with warranty coverage.
Do they hassle you because you chipped?
Does it come up during regular servicing?
I want to chip but I'm nervous about voiding the warranty. If I knew how area dealers treat chipped A4's my worries would be eased.
thanks
I got my 98 1.8TQM there and chipped with Wett 1.0 bar at around 10k. Ever since then I have been going back to the dealer for regular service, and 3 head gaskets. My impression is that they simply don't care whether I'm chipped or not. Valentine, the head of service department is a really nice guy, and I even told him that I bring my car to the tracks. I mean, anyone with some A4 knowledge can guess that I'm chipped just be looking at my car (pic). So yea, I wouldn't worry bringing a chipped car there. Plus, with the Wett socket, you can always change it back to stock chip if the give you trouble.
Kev
and are you replacing the head gaskets because of the chip? awesome pic (I have a silver 1.8T)
thanks
The first time might take a little bit longer, but once you get the hang of it, the whole process take 10 minutes tops, and if someone can hold a touch light for you that's even better.
Kev
Cylinder heads have two gaskets, one on top, one on the bottom. The bottom one is called the head gasket and it has a tough life, holding in combustion pressure and sealing water and oil passages. Blowing one of them is generally due to overheating or lots of prolonged detonation. The other gasket, on top of the head, is called the valve cover gasket and has an easier job. It seals the valve cover to the head and is airtight and oil tight. The side near the turbo has a hard life since it sees lots of heat and can deteriorate from this. A head gasket failure is a BIG deal while a valve cover gasket is a little deal. The cause and cures for the failure of either gasket are different.
Stan
