Can anone provide me with differences? Horsepower? It seems like most of you turbo boys chip more than the 2.8 guys...what gives? Thanks in advance,<p>Newbie (Soon to be future 1.8t or 2.8 owner)

The 1.8 turbo engine is more chippable than the 2.8. You can get it easily up to 180 hp, some do it up to 235hp some even more.<br>The 2.8 chip only adds about 15 extra horses. That's why many of us don't bother with a 2.8 chip.<p>Gus<br>98.5 30v

For the quick reply. It seems like here in Atlanta thare are many 2.8 Quattros for sale used, but I rarely come across a 1.8tqms for sale. I would much rather have the turbo, but finding one w/ all the options I want is tough! <p>I guess i'll keep looking.<br>Thanks again, Brett

The reason for that is because they started selling 1.8t's in the summer of 97, whereas the 12v 2.8's have been there since the beginning (fall '95). The 3 year warranty period for these cars is over or close to being over.

Chipped 1.8T ups turbo pressure from 7lbs to 12 - 14 lbs thus big increase in hp (150 hp goes up to approx 200 hp). 2.8 chipped will only give you 10 or so more hp.

Gus,<p>If you had to choose again, would you chip a 1.8T to 200hp or stick with your smooth V6?<p>I can't decide between the two options. I find alot of people loving the 1.8T chipped, and a few feeling the V6 is "not sporty" enough.<p>Dave

don't forget the 2.8 30v already has 190hp, so 1.8's are chipping up to the 2.8 figures. i think performance of a stock 2.8 and a chipped 1.8 to 180hp or 200hp would be very similar. a chipped 2.8 to 200hp and a chipped 1.8 i would take the 2.8 look at all the extra options (wood, smooth engine no blown waste gates etc.)<p>happy 2.8 30v and chipped
