Hi, I'm thinking of getting my 1.8tqm chipped, but there serveral factors I wanted to clear up before I do so. If the chip increases boost, will the stock turbo be able to handle it??? another thing is that I don't want to void my audi 3 yr warrenty. My dealer told me that if I chip my car, then the whole warrenty will be void... what should I do? thanks...
98 1.8tqm

Your question sounds exactly like one in a magazine.... As for chipping the A4 Turbo motor, sure, it certainly could void your warranty if you destroy something somewhat related to the driveline - from motor to tranny and exhaust, but what will a chip do to a non-operating rear window or a broken seat part?? listen, a warranty is there to protect both you the consumer as well as the seller and manufacturer. If you perform a swap of chips, expect the local Audi Tech to be confused IF he needs to troubleshoot your A4 for problems, even if YOU don't report them to him (OBDII computers are pretty smart). The stock Turbo should handle a simple first stage from any chip manufacturer. Anything more radical should be exercised with caution. Enjoy your Audi. Befriend a Lawyer. Don't forget about stopping, that's important.
1. Don't tell dealer (it's tough now that you already eluded to it to them)
2. If you're going to drive the car hard, get a bigger turbo; if you just want some more power, get a 0.8 bar Wetterauer chip.

-josh
Hi, thanks for the input... you refered my question to one in a magzine... where can I get a copy of that article? thanks...

Check out TAP's web site for info on "voiding" the warranty with an aftermarket chip.

Warranty Info From Tap's Web Site
