My dealer said $500 refundable deposit would get me on the S4 allocation list. He's already sold his allocations for April for August delivery and said I can get a May allocation for September delivery, priced at MSRP.

I was thinking the same combo, but I have been having second thoughts after talking to my dealer. He was at the TT training a couple weeks ago and saw a nogaro blue/blue-black interior. He said it was a little 'tacky' for his tastes. The blue was an eye-sore, looking at the pics from the brochure and from the S4 at AoA headquarters I think I am going to personally go with nogaro/onyx leather or nogaro/silver (forget if this is even available).
Others may have different input on this, I would love to be able to see this interior first hand to decide for myself but clearly this is not possible if you are ordering before any hit the shores.
I saw a couple of Nagaro blue S4s while in Germany. It is a very bright blue. Personally I would tire of the color in a short time. Its one of those colors you like at first but change your mind after a while. My dealer saw one at the Maui Audi meeting and thought it was tacky as well. Its a fun color though.

Talked to owner of Audi dealership. He went to Hawaii (Maui-in particular, I think) to test drive the S4s. Told me they were FAST and the best color he saw was Nogaro Blue. However, he told me to stay away from the Blue Alcantara. It's too cheap looking. That's his opinion but looking at the pictures, I think I would agree.
Mine: Nogaro/Silver + all optioned out!

The paint looks really good, infact it is the same colour as RS2 blue so it has a perfect pedigree !!
The alcantara looks a bit tacky at first however after a while you begin to realise it is a real eye catcher. I have had loads of people rubbernecking etc.
Luckily I have the best of both worlds 'cause after 3 months Audi are taking my "loan '98 S4" back and are giving me my new '99 S4 in Nogaro blue with silver nappa leather...not bad eh !

I don't know whether you have seen the alcantara setup before so if you haven't I will explain.
The main seat body is alcantara blue, the material is a bit like suede. The sides of the seat are black leather. Along with this the door inserts (ie where the windows switches are and where you can rest your arm) are also alcantara blue. If you get the aluminium strip that goes along the middle of the instrument panel instead of the standard graphite looking strip, it can look really good.
It hasn't got the class of pure leather however is looks a LOT more sporty verging on boy racer !!!
