I have heard rumors that the MY2000 1.8T will have 180hp and have some engine mods to handle the extra boost.
Anyone hear this as well?
I know that the TT has the 180hp engine but has anyone heard about the MY2000 A4?
If you know what is different from the current engine and/or when the 2000 A4's will be available please let me know.
Thanks

All last year we heard rumors that the 1999 1.8T would be boosted to 180hp, but it never happened. I'm expecting it to stay the same as it is now. The 2000 models should start appearing in the fall.
Matt

Don't get your hops all down and out. It simple to chip the car and gain tremendous amounts of performance by having done so. And as many on the group can attest for the most part it's entirely trouble free.
Mechanicals on this car are great...I'd say they're waaaay overbuilt (exclude wastegate) and can easily handle the 180 Hp which you so desire.
Later,
James R 99 1.8TMS Neu 0.8 Bar

Audi did build up (reinforce) the 1.8T 180hp engine so that means it can be re-chipped to get even more HP out of it. How exactly, I am not sure. I have heard it has a lighter flywheel and a few other changes. There are 3rd party chips out there for just this particular A4 engine.
--Ian.

This is a response a VWVortex member responded to my post on that forum. This addresses the differences between the current 1.8T and the 1.8T
in the TT Coupe. So its possible this change may
occur. Hopefully Audi has a better delivery timeframe than VW.
-------------------------------------------------
The 180 hp version has a modified cylinder head featuring Audi's new "tumble" intake channels that promote a better air-fuel mixture, the end result of which is supposed to be a hotter-burning combustion process, leading to cleaner emissions, and improved low end torque among other things.
The engine management is "tuned", but unlike aftermarket jobs, this entails a whole new version of Bosch's Motronic ME system - 7.5.
Finally, the motor also incorporates the new "drive by wire" system; as you may have seen elsewhere on this site, that means no more traditional, mechanical throttle with cable actuation. Throttle position is electronically regulated. By contrast, the VW GTI 1.8T w/150 hp still uses a throttle cable.
Keep in mind that Audi also offers a 210hp version of the 1.8T, in the new S3. Damn nice car.
I would expect VW to also start to offer some of these additional iterations of the 1.8T, since the VR6 is moving up to 204, and even the VR5 will get the 4-valve/cylinder head with 170 hp. Take into account the more powerful versions of the VR6 that are supposed to be in development, i.e. twin turbos, along with the VR8 and the fact that even the next generation Polo's GTI model is supposed to get the 150hp 1.8T, it doesn't make sense for the Golf GTI to be "left back".
That 180hp version is also in Audi's A3, but it supplements, not replaces the 150 hp version.
