View Full Version : CD Changer Katie Melby 12-27-1998, 02:18 PM Where's the cd changer plug on the 98 A4? My Dad is going ballistic and all I need is to play CD's. Thanx. Paul N 12-27-1998, 02:41 PM On my 98 A4 the CD changer is located in the truck on the left side, where the tool kit i located. If your dad is trying to install his own the connection is probably under the carpet. It for it attached to a bunch of wires attached to the metal of the body. It may take some searching.
Good luck.
Paul Eric E 12-27-1998, 02:54 PM
I also had some trouble finding it.
The way I eventually located it was by feel--it's way down deep (toward the ground) along the driver's side of the trunk, behind the wheel well. As you've probably already done, you need to peel the lining of the trunk away, but that still doesn't allow you to actually see the connector. The plug is round and wrapped in a piece of soft styrofoam; eventually I felt something the right shape and pulled it into view. DavidG 12-27-1998, 05:02 PM I also want to add a CD changer, but the trunk arrangement seems different from the '98 that the FAQ was written about. Anyone know where the plug is in the '99 and where in the trunk the changer is "intended" to be mounted (in the passenger-side storage pocket?)
Thanks! DMak 12-27-1998, 05:10 PM The plug for the 99 is the same as the 98, on the driver side in the storage area... THe installation kit comes with all the necessary brackets and special box to mount the CD player...
Dmak 1.8TQMS Eric E 12-27-1998, 05:42 PM My car is a '99, and the wiring was in the same place as described for '98.
I know the storage compartment you're talking about on the passenger side, but the changer is intended to be mounted on the driver's side.
If you get the Panasonic DP-601 or DP-801 instead of the OEM Audi CD changer (I got the DP-801 8-disc changer for $179, but paid through the nose for the necessary wiring adapter), you can mount at the top of the trunk, underneath the package shelf. It works out great, and doesn't intrude on your trunk space as much. Plus, you can use the "universal" mounting hardware sold with the changer, and not have to buy the Audi mounting kit.
|
