I'm thinking of adding recaro seats to my 2.8 (regretting not getting the factory option... if i only knew).
I know some of you out there have done this, and I'm curious to know what it costs. Also, has anyone had the seats re-upolstered with factory leather. It would look silly to have the back seat leather and the front some kind of cloth, no? What does this cost, if you know?
Thanks!
Jim S.
98 2.8qms

Cameron in Chicago - Put in aftermarket Recaro sets (Trend? I can't remember exactly what model)
Robert Yee in Los Angeles - Got an aftermarket shop to redo his seats (front and back, I think) in black leather
I would like to do it too....but I am saving for a S4... :-)
If you cannot find their email, then email me, and I will ask them to contact you.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM

As far as the leather goes, I was told that Recaro does not like to send them with leather because it seldom is a good match to the stock interior. The do recomend shops in your area tat will cover in exactly the same leather as your rear if you bring a sample. I plan to do this but the cost is over 600/seat so I'm going to wait untill the cloth shows some wear. If you have black leather the black cloth really doesn't look bad. And as far as comfort and performance is concerned its a no brainer. Cornering in the stock (non-sport) seats is is a joke, they have about as much lateral support as a park bench.
There are some pics of the seats in my Avant in the A4 gallery. /Black/Modified Avant. They were ordered through CEC by a friend at my dealership in Santa Monica.
Good Luck,
Damon
98 Avant QMS, chip, exhaust, 18s blah blah blah...
There is a person in the gallery that has the same seats I do. Check the gallery for a Brilliant Yellow 1997 A4 with yellow and black Recaro SPG seats.
The SPG style comes in four versions:
SPG-0 = Black Fiberglass Construction
SPG-R = Black Fiberglass Construction with Helmet Guards
SPA-0 = Black Carbon Fiber Construction
SPA-R = Black Carbon Fiber Construction with Helmet Guards
I have the basic SPG. It has dynamic ventral support (you can change how your back and seat are supported instantly while on the side of the road), and supports four, five, and six point restraints.
Point 1: Bolts to roll cage
Point 2: Bolts to roll cage
Point 3: Bolts to supported tunnel
Point 4: Bolts to side frame component
Point 5: Bolts below seat (reinforced floorpan plate required to be legal in some racing leagues)
Point 6: Bolts below seat (reinforced floorpan plate required to be legal in some racing leagues)
I didn't need helmet support as extreme as the R (racer) versions offer, but some might (GT2 guys seem to). Recaro's product line can be as extreme as you want it to be, so choose wisely.
Note that I'm the only person who drives the car and I have a 29" waist. It might be a problem if other people drive the car, swapping out an SPG plus the racing bracket is a royal pain.
Cameron
A4 2.8Q - Street Car...
A4 1.8TQ - Less streetable by the minute...
A4 1.8TQ - To Be Purchased Monday (12/28/98)...

I can give lots of info on Recaros. I have full option Trend seats (includes heat & positive ventilation), with custom leather/Recaro cloth upholstery. Retail price $1280 per seat... my dealer charged me $1140. I have had the rear seat & appropriate other interior components reupholstered to match. Final installation of fronts to be done this week (had to solve side airbag issue first). I'd be happy to share details With any of you by phone.....e-mail me for info or phone #s.
'99 1.8 TQMS A!Avantgarde body kit, MTM chip,etc.
