WENOL makes their basic metal polish. They also make AUTO WENOL FINISHING POLISH. Anyone ever use this on their A4. I currently use the Mequires black bottle cleaner (ya know - the expensive stuff), then #9 tan Meguires bottle, then finish with Meguires black bottle carnuba. Great stuff. However I get pretty picky when I'm doing this and am usually in the Garage with a 500 watt light shining and can still see some swirls. I even take a trouble light and look at the paint at different angles. I would love to be able to make the finish look like the inside of the doors that are scratch/swirl free. I'll go any extra mile to get that ultimate shine. I'm using the yellow applicator pads that I get at Pep Boys and 100% terry towels when removing the wax. I use (and have been for 15 years) The Absorber for drying. I'm aware of washing The Absorber without softeners.
Also I clean the inside of my wheels everytime I wash, but after a winter of crap, the insides will probably clean up OK, but I'm not sure what would be the best to use. I use the same cleaner and wax on the wheels when I'm waxing the outside of the car. I was thinking that the WENOL will remove the clear coat from the wheels. I would only use it on the inside.
What would be best on my stainless tips (not factory). They stay shiny but have some of the black dots accumulating. Should I wax the tips.
Sorry for all the questions..any help will be greatly appreciated.
Dave K.
98.0 Avant 2.8 QT Santorian Blue

I have accepted the fact that I am going to always have some random light scratches on my car (what you are calling swirls, if a buffer has never been used on your paint). I think they mostly come from washing the car, and possibly from towels and applicators (these can contain polyester threads in the stitching that can cause scratches, even though they are labled 100% cotton). When you remove a scratch, you are really removing the paint around the scratch. So you want to avoid doing this as much as possible. Some super anal tips you can try when washing (if you don't already) is to use a separate bucket of rinse water when washing the car. The wash mit gets rinsed in this bucket before it is placed in the soap/water bucket. I do this when my car is really dirty. Wash the car from the top down, least dirty parts to most dirty parts. Use a separate sponge/wash mit for the paint and the wheels/lower body trim (black pieces). Use lots of thick clean terry towels when removing the wax an polish. If you drop a towel/mit/sponge/applicator on the ground, do not use it again on the paint even if you wash it (instead use it for tire dressing or something that won't be scratched by any small grit that might now be embeded in the material).
Dave M - '97 1.8tm
