Hi. My 1996 A4 lacks the "always on" illumination of current models, and it would be great to have. It seems simple enough to do, but I don't know where to start....any ideas out there.
Any news on 12v chip (auto trans...)?
Any news on taking a standard auto and adding triptronic/wheel control?
Thanks!
Jeff

We have a 1996 A4 2.8Q and a 1997 A4 1.8TQ.
I've successfully converted a standard automatic to Tiptronic, though not steering-wheel Tiptronic. Email me for more info.
The throttle body work Steve S. has talked about seems like the best performance mod for the 12v.
The always-on illumination isn't really an issue for me, since I always have my lights on (and fogs), but maybe others know how to wire this.
Garrett would probably be willing to do a 12v chip, if he hasn't already... he seems very knowledgable with chip programming and it would be worth a call, I think.
Cameron

...found that there apparently is a 12V chip available for the pre-A4 12V cars. I wonder why this is?
Charles
PS: Maybe Intended Acceleration would do one custom, for the right price!
Appratently, the 96/97 12v a4's had a "unique" chip...not bosch. This from Mr. Hoppen.....via phone many moons ago. Makes me sort of mad, the good thing is that he also sad aofgermany tried to get the most out of the engine already, and the BEST his connections in Germany could do was 5hp, but this lowered low end torque. In other works, 172 hp out of a 12v engine with good rev and torque was about as good as they could do. ...
