Well, picked up a stone crack friday, figures, old cars never get hit, only the new one. I remember seeing some complaints about windsheild clarity here, are there any aftermarket brands to avoid? <p>Keith

I remember seeing some complaints about windsheild clarity here, are there any aftermarket brands to avoid? <p>Keith Dank 04-12-1999, 10:34 AM ! lorenzo 04-12-1999, 01:21 PM to answer your question about after market glass.my answer is to stay away from it. i work for a major car maker glass plant for the past 5yrs. and in that 5yrs. i've seen so many windshields get passed on to be shipped out that i have an idea what cars not to buy,or at least look closely at before buying(american,mexican modles).. i can not say that the import windshields are any diffrent(i bet they're not),just check out the windshield before hand if you can.if you can,hold it up in front of you in a angle and see if you can see any distortion.aftermarket(nags) are the seconds at the glass plant,and sometimes 3rds.hope this helps someone,thanks Ray Calvo 04-12-1999, 08:58 PM Is optically excellent; equal of the OE which in my car did not have distortion others mentioned. <p>I have heard that US manufactured glass is stronger/less prone to pitting/cracks than OE. Time will tell. All I can say is German glass in my prev. Audis and Porsches very prone to pitting, which I have not noticed on US cars of similar mileage. |
