Wife just called, said that the car wouldn't start and the check oil light was on. Seems odd because in the 8700 miles on the car, I haven't burned any oil. I have been checking since some readers have mentioned this before. Just took a long trip over the weekend and made sure that the oil level was OK.
Car was last started on monday and moved a couple of feet. Prior to that it was driven 240 miles straight on Sunday at times in heavy rain. Could this be that flooding problem that happened to a couple of A4 owners? I've never had a problem starting the car before even when I've moved it a couple of feet, washed, and then restarted.
I'm going to check it out when I get home. Hopefully it's just a fluke. Problems since I've had it have been very minor (heated mirror, idle stall one time, squeaky armrest). In the archives, it says to start it with the gas pedal to the floor assuming it's in flood mode.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated. I'd hate to have to take it to the dealer.

David, I also have a 30V Avant, and have not noticed a "failure to start" problem like you describe, but think a couple of other folks have seen it. Once or twice car seems to crank longer tyhan I would expect (like 2-3 seconds). Under thse cases, I hold gas open a little, and car has kicked right over.
Have NOT gotten the oil light. is this the regular dash light or the Trip Computer warning display? What does the owner manual say?

I thought about it and I'll check with the wife later. It might just be the trip computer display when you turn the ignition to the on position.
Every now and then I do touch the gas slightly when it takes a couple of seconds longer to start. My wife never does so I don't think she could have flooded. I'm not even sure if moving the car a few feet monday would flood it anyway. Hopefuly it's a fluke and it'll start later.
Either way, I'll let you guys know when I figure out what the problem is. On an old supra I used to have, I once drove it through a large puddle. It had to dry out before it would start again. I thought maybe it was something similar because I drove through some real heavy thunderstorms sunday, but it started monday so I ruled that out. ????
Have same model, but no problems. However, some others have noted that things can go awry if you run the car for only a very short time and then shut it off. Perhaps an ECU issue? If nothing else, when you get it started you might want to drive it around for awhile.
