I've been debating whether I should elect to go for the premium Bose system in the A4 I want to order. On the one hand, the idea of a good sounding system is appealing, on the other, the idea of a CD changer is not. I simply cannot get behind the idea that I need to stop and get out of the car just to change my music. Hell, I never know what I feel like listening to next, never mind 4 CD's from now. I much prefer the S4 idea with the in dash singel cd changer.
So the real question is, is the system upgrade really worth it or is the stock system pretty good (including the speakers)? After all, I am buying a car not a $35,000 mobile stereo.
Some people feel that the Bose is not worth the money, for $1200 you can get a much better aftermarket stereo system in your A4. However, lots of people here love their Bose and it's a great thing to have if you're not a real Stereo buff and don't want to bother with aftermarket stuff.
As for the CD changer, you can ask the dealer if they'll remove it and subtract that amount from the cost. That's what my dealer is doing, since the car I ordered came with the Bose package that I didn't order. So he's giving it to me for free! I'll just get the CD changer from Clair for $250.
Anyone know when that sale ends?
My 2 cents.

I popped for the Bose system in my 98.5 Avant, and now wish I hadn't. I'd really like to buy a minidisc system (I'm through with cassette tapes) but am stuck with the overpriced cassette headunit. I'm also looking at the Philips CD-R system, which is nice but pricey.
I guess that the only thing to really recommend the Bose system is that it looks totally stock and matches the Audi's red illumination. Otherwise, you can do better.
