Why are 97, 98 A4 1.8t or 2.8 so expensive? A 98 1.8tq Man. sports package for 24,980? You can nearly get a new one for that much. What is a good price for an A4 (both 1.8t and 2.8) with quattro, 5sp, and sports package.

A friend of mine got his 97 1.8T just before I did. He bought in Dec. of 96, sold in Apr. of 99. Car was Quattro, 5spd, 1.8T, Stage4, koni/H&R, Recaros, heat, sunroof, 18" wheels. He took the wheels off and the Recaros off, putting the stock equipment back. He had 44,000 miles on the car and he sold it at $21,000.00 because he didn't want two cars at college. He has his name on one of the first incoming non-NM TT's.
I think mileage and the fact that it was modified and obviously well cared-for offset any penalty related to high mileage. These cars will run forever, don't let mileage get to you.
BTW, in tuning circles, the 1997 A4 1.8T is just about the most desirable car in the world because it doesn't have side airbags, has antilock that's easy to disable, has the first non-Hitachi ECU rig on an A4, etc. ... so in some areas/groups you may be paying a premium for that car.
Cameron
1997 A4 1.8T with some tuning
