View Full Version : MY A4 HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 10 DAYS NOW...

I took my 98.5 A4 1.8T into the dealer last monday to fix:
1 crazing headlight (passenger side)
alignment
Leak in the rear passenger side door (it's leaked since day 1)
When they took off the trim for the door, they noticed that the door frame itself was bent - it appeared that in assembling the door, they had forced the frame and tweaked it so it was decided that the door/window frame needed to be replaced. The part was overnighted and when they attempted to put the new one in, they couldn't get it to line up right. After working on that, they consulted the Audi regional office and another door frame was ordered in. Again, the new frame didn't work. Now they are telling me they may need to replace the entire door, and are waiting for the regional office to get back to them so that they can order the door (which will have to be painted and all). Then they said that if the door doesn't line up right, the frame may be twisted and they would probably just end up giving me a new car. I'm not expecting this to go that far, but how long do I go before I really get upset? At least I'm not driving some normal piece of sh*t rental - I have a brand new '99 Cadillac DeVille, but I miss my Audi!!
Arrrrgh!
JohnS
Here's the bonus quote of the day by the service advisor:
"You're the one that brought the car in for service."

I say wait until it's resolved (i.e. leak stopped or car replaced) and then write any needed letters to AoA and CC: the dealership owner(s) and Better Business Bureau(sp) if needed. I have found that getting "ticked" off is never very useful and simply gets you into a "he said and then I said" situation.
Right now the situation isn't perfect, but you have a loaner/rental car and they are working to resolve the problem. I think that in legaleese it's called "making a good faith effort".
No matter how it ends, you should write to the top manegement of all concerned entities to let them know what and how, so you should be documenting every contact you have with them in chronological order.
And if they end up giving you a new car, you should write to thank them....
IMHO,
Alex

I know that you are friends with some of these people, so it's kind of a tough call. If you get pissed at them, you run the risk of ruining your relationship with them, on the other hand, they shouldn't be able to take advantage of you because you are friends with them......
Matt

I'm so sick and tired of this type of crap that we are suppose to take, give me a name and some info and I'll funnel it to the proper channel.
If we start complaining more, (and I mean all of us) then we might make some changes in how AoA thinks and how their dealers treat us, their customers.
Albert

It is the dealer I used to work for. I do have to admit that they really stepped up and gave me the Caddy instead of some other car that would suck. The thing I would hate to have happen is them take advantage of me because we are all friends - including the regional manager. (I know that sounds bad, but I know how people in the car business think - I was there once).
Hell, they asked me if I'd come sell cars down there again 2 weeks ago.
I'm pretty sure that if it did come down to a new car, they would make sure and treat me well. I do refer a lot of business to them still. It just seems that they may be relying on my good nature to give them all the time they need on the repair.
I just want my car back.
JohnS
i would try to force them to give me a new car. You understand that a car with a bent frame will never be as new...

I have had remarkably similar experiences with Mahan Audi in Houston Texas. My experience with A of A has not helped. My post below outlines some of the problems. If you are channeling information, I have a file full to share. I aagree that there is no reason anyone should have to put up with dreadful service or unreliable cars. These are Audis, not Hyundais.
