I guess it's time for the weekly roof rack question...Anyway, I've got a Yakima system (48" round bars, 2 SteelHead fork-mount bike trays and the fairing) Total cost for the system was $430 from a local bike shop. You could probably get three bikes on the top, possibly 4...but that would be pretty tight. If you went with a wider bar (which would hang over the side of the car) you could probably carry 5 bikes.
Andy Hedin
'97 A4 1.8Tqms, Wett 1.0 Bar, ABT Filter, E-codes, Yak Rack...

It looks almost exactly the same as Andy's car in the pic below. I cut the bars to be flush with the sides of the car (looks better but less rack space). Definitely get the fairing also (huge windnoise reduction). Either is a great rack. Some have said the Yakima fits around the inside of the door better, but due to it's circular bars, the front tire holder has slipped down and allowed the tire to slam against the roof leaving marks.

Like it,
can get near cost if you talk with salesperson.
can hold two bikes, (Thule upright attachments)
Thule ski rack, etc. work
Nice fit, doesn't stick out over roofline.
more in archives, pics in pic poster
Rich
'98 2.8Qsport
