View Full Version : a4 1.8t who is this car marketed to age, income? will 04-05-1999, 05:19 PM _rl 04-05-1999, 05:45 PM heh, parents bought me a 98.5 2.8 quattro.
i'm 18. =]
98.5/2.8Q - A! GlennB 04-05-1999, 06:01 PM Steve S. 04-05-1999, 06:08 PM My delays were
1) Not getting paid adequately at first
2) buying a house
3) private school for the kids
Ah...but now I finally got a decent sports sedan.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM Cameron 04-05-1999, 06:20 PM But not because of my age. Or income.
Simply because of my interest in cars.
Like ///M3's, Integras, New Beetles, and RX7's there is no real socioeconomic group that buys the 1.8T A4... and no real price range for A4 1.8T's with $21,000 1.8T's and $41,000+ 1.8T's on the road.
There are about a thousand ways to think of the 1.8T. Some find a used 1997 A4 1.8T Quattro is a better car than the E36 318i with a similar price, four-wheel-drive, and a current bodystyle. Some find a 1999.5 A4 1.8T is sporty like their current Eclipse, but has the additional storage and seats they need.
Personally? I only had two cars on my shopping list, the Porsche 993/C4 and the Audi A4 1.8T Quattro. My opinion is one of the more outrageous on this board:
A $95,000 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro is a better car than the $95,000 Porsche Carerra 4 (911/996).
And, looking at a $95,000 Carerra 4 at the Porsche/Audi Exchange awhile ago (Aero, PCM, hifi, mats, supple, washers, rcaps, alum/s+b, stainless sill, pwr seat, rear wipe, litronic, 18" whls, lumb/L, computer) I'd say it's true. Better performance with all the same goodies (18" wheels, xenon lights, great instrumentation, etc.).
You don't have to agree... the Exchange still has an unclaimed C4 Silver/Black coming in at $84,586.00 with aero, hifi, cd, pwr seat, dials, and 18" wheels if you disagree.
Thinking a little differently,
Cameron Jee 04-05-1999, 07:22 PM Nice car, regardless. Good luck and don't bash it up and make your parents trade it in for a Saturn. Jamie - VWvortex 04-05-1999, 08:44 PM According to the Audi customer demographics faxed to us last week the averages are as follows:
A4 1.8T - 62% Male / Average Household Income: $87,500
A4 2.8 - 59% Male / Average Household Income: $121,200 04-05-1999, 09:14 PM CH 04-05-1999, 10:14 PM vik 04-06-1999, 08:15 AM Or maybe I'm the only one who drove like an idiot when I was 16-18. Regardless of how much money I have, no kid of mine is getting a fast car until they're old enough to buy it themselves. Not a value judgement, just an attempt to save lives...

-vik
age 16: '77 Plymouth Volare station wagon -- green with wood paneling
age 18: '83 Ford Escort Wagon -- 0-60 in 16.2 on a good day (DNF on a bad day)
age 21: '91 Ford Escort Pony -- still running great! I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it wasn't in Audi's minds to make a car that parents would simply buy for their teenage children. And I agree that if you didn't pay for the car yourself, that you are not the kind of input this survey is looking for.
- Drew (with similar upbringing to vik)
Age 16 (1984): '77 Chevy Vega (need I say more?)
Age 18: '78 Mercury Capri (4-banger Mustang look-alike)
Age 19: '81 Chevy Citation (not fast and not pretty either)
Age 22: '88 Honda Civic DX hatchback (I *thought* it was peppy!)
Age 26: '71 Olds Cutlass convertible (Still got it! My A4 replaced the Honda. The Olds and the A4 were the only two cars that I bought myself (not family hand-me-downs).
|
