View Full Version : 3 weeks into my Audi. I no longer wonder why everyone was talking about brake dust so much.

Car was hand washed last Monday (its black, you see). Just went through an automated "no touch" high pressure car wash. Afterward, I looked at the wheels and thought, "Wow, that really worked." Then I ran a finger lightly over the front rim -- pitch black. You say waxing them helps.......

I found that the brake dust comes right off of waxed wheels. It does require some soap, though. Just spraying with a hose is not enough.

I also noticed the same problem as soom as I got my 2.8 Avant qms. The solution is quite simple. I just went into an auto supply store and asked for a really good brake dust remover. I got something caled brake dust buster. It works great. Just spray it evenly on the wheel let sit for a few minutes and hose off. the only thing I have to do sometimes is rub the inside of the spokes with a cloth ( I have the 7 spoke wheels) other than that it's as easy as rinsing with the hose. I usally put it on then was the front part of the car and rinse the wheels when I do the hood. Ditto for the back. It's a piece of cake.

I would be real careful with these, sometimes, acidic mixtures. If you talk to Gary from Ronal, he recommends very mild car soap and water. Remember Ronal makes the OEM wheels for Audi.
Your choice....I am sticking with water.
Steve S.
97 2.8QM
P.S. I did change brake pads to Rofrens...very little brake dust now.
Their about $59.95 and are easy to install and garanteed for life. I just changed the fronts and now they get about equally dusty front and rear. A lot less than stock..

I read on here that Raybestos pads did eliminate most of the dust, but they squeal worse than the OEM pads. Is this true?
