View Full Version : It's shame that Audi is going to a separate fog lights under the bumper.

I love my fog lights within the headlights. They are not pretentious. They work great. They are unique. The low-key factor of the fog lights fits in well with the whole personality of A4.
From Civic and Saturn to SUVs (especially SUVs), they all have these darn blaring fog lights (in funky colors and in sizes bigger than the main headlights) which the owners have them on for 24 hours a day in the hope of compensating for something missing in their lives (physical or mental).
Now the new 99.5 A4 will be like the rest of them…
Sad…
CSR 97 2.8QM
...I think the lights will look great in the bumper. I always thought the A4 bumper needed a little spicing up. Not that it's ugly, but I think the foglights will enhance the appeal. But then, that's my opinion, and I'm probably the only one who feels that way! :-)
Charles
I think that the A6 treatment of the foglights in the lower bumper grill is a very nice touch. I would like to do something like that to mine, kind of like Richard Gonzalez did as I could get a stronger fog/driving light for nighttime, (yes folks, here it is) MOUNTAIN PASS DRIVING!
So, Chuck, that makes two of us, and we both live in Washington, and drive mountain passes occasionally, hmmmmmm......maybe they should make a Washington State Special Edition A4!
Kirk
Thinking, how did Richard DOOOOO that so nicely, (if I only had a brain...)Gawrsh
LLTek has a kit for A6-like fogs available right now. $300 and change I believe. I really want them but cost is holding me back.
Check LLTek out!
Eric

Did anyone see the Car magazine (UK) article that gave the nod to the 2.8qms over the new 328? - Audi dealers are stocking reprints.
In it, the reviewer say flatly that the A4 did not have fog lights. Euro equipment can be different, especially standard vs. optional, but the front lights look the same as mine, as do the center consloe switches. So, I will guess that the fog lights were just too stealth-like to be noticed.
What I like best about the fog light setup is that I'm not liable to smash them in the parking lot like I would low-mounted ones.
Peter
97 1.8tqms

...in the bumper. I'd be willing to bet the bumper would be pretty messed up too. I have the bumper mounted fogs in my '89, 90Q, and have never hit anything with them. They are pitted from sand and rocks, but so are the headlights and the hood, and the pits are pretty minor.
Charles
while i tend to agree, aesthetics ofter win
out over function. this it probably one
consideration for their current placement.
but the fact is, the purpose of fog lights is to
provide better illumination under high atmosphere
conditions. by placing the light source as far
away from the driver's eye level as possible
reduces the reflection of the light back into
the driver's face.
think of it as a safety improvement...
