I got a scratch on my car so I ordered some audi touch up paint. It came with the silver paiint (cause my car is silver) and some clear coat stuff. Anyways, on the cap of the silver paint there's a little cap that comes off and has metal bristles.
1) I was wondering what those metal bristles were for.
2) does anyone have any tips on how to apply the paint and clear coat.
Thanks
Hi Joekim:
Those metal bristles is used for taking out those rough surface before you are going to paint the touch up. You should have a pretty gentle manner to remove those rough surface because it will probably goes into some inner layers if you are too hard on it. After you remove the rough surface, you can gently (once again) apply the touch-up paint on the smoother surface. After you apply the touch-up paint, wait for 12 hours before you apply the clearcoat paint because you have to wait until the paint to dry before absorbing the clearcoat. When you apply the clearcoat paint, use as gentle manner as you apply the touch-up paint.
How's the damage? Is it serious? If its too big you should bring into body shop and repaint the whole area instead of using the touch-up paint.
Hope this help
Tom
97 A4 1.8TQMS
99 JETTA IV GLS 2.0

A4 Club Vancouver

If it is a small scratch (1/8" or so), I generally like to use a toothpick rather than the brush in the bottle (drops too big a dab). Techniques from what I have read are to apply paint in several thin layers, slowly building up thickness till it is even with original.
Good luck with the silver. My present Avant and an old 911 were both silver. I love the color, but boy, is it a PITA to match shades when doing touch ups.

It varies by paint color. Tropic Green was cheaper than most, about $7 if I remember correctly. Several run from $10 to $15.
Peter
97 1.8tqms
