Is there anyone out there with an opinion about driving a 2.8Quattro on the sand on a 4WD beach? I am planning a vacation and the brochure states that there is a nearby beach that permits 4WD vehicles. Since I've never driven my A4 on sand, I'm wondering if anyone out there has experience with this, and if so, how did the A4 handle?? Is clearance an issue?
Thanks in advance,
VK
98 2.8 30V

I don't think quattro equates evenly with 4WD. I would have to say that with the lower ground clearance and lack of 4 wheel low would preclude taking an A4 on the beach. I would never dream of such an idea in such a car, quattro or not.
No offense, just my opinion, but I would have to say "No way!"
--Ian.

I would not recommend it unless you had tread similar to snow tires. I once tried to drive on the sand with Bridgestone S02s. BIG MISTAKE. I just had to go a few feet and I felt like I was getting stuck. I am not certain what other impact it will have on other components.

On a beach like Daytona, the sand is like pavement. I saw a Lambourghini (sp?) on the beach during Spring Break a few years back. But in most places the sand is soft and deep. In fact, many places like Nantucket Island, MA require you to lower your tire pressure (they check it) and carry a tow rope. If that's the case, sand only a few inches deep would cause problems. Not to mention how much sand could get thrown into delicate places in the engine compartment.
I second the NO WAY.
Yeah, pretty much what I figured. It's not going to be Daytona-esque. More like Ted Kennedy in Chappy.
Thanks for the thoughts
VK
