Hi,
I just noticed "two" small rust spots in my two month old Santorin Blue A4.
It looks like that rust is coming from inside. These spots are not very big, and
they are located on BOTH rear doors. I am little bit worried what has happened
to this car during the painting process.
Any advise, how I should deal with this matter (I am anyway going to discuss
about it with the dealer)?
Thanks,

Mika
Ps. Otherwise my car has been perfect.

I would first bring it to an Auto Body Shop, and have someone who knows what they're doing take a look and give you some expert advice. Bring that knowledge to the dealer with you. Rust on a 2-month car, needless to say, is unacceptable, and you need to make sure that the root of the problem is thoroughly addressed by your dealer.
You might want to take some pictures, in case the problem recurs.
The panels should NOT rust in the first ten years of ownership. Certainly not in the first two months.
Tell the dealer you want the parts of the car that are rusting replaced, paintmatched, and repainted by an Audi-certified shop (if there's one nearby). If the doors are faulty or were not properly treated at the factory, tell them you want new doors. This is a serious problem and should be addressed seriously.
Cameron

It may only be what is called Rail Dust. This is the metal from the wheels on the trains when they transport the cars. A bodyshop can take care of it with no problem. It is a timely repair & they need to do the whole car because it just has not started on the rest of the car. You need to plain on leaving it all day, but it can be repaired in just one day. I have seen this severial times here in Dallas. Let me know if you need more info.

I had some small markings of rust on the bottom of one of my doors on my 1999 Audi A4 1.8T, I took it in to the dealer, (Stoddard Imported Cars, http://www.stoddard.com, Audi/Porsche Only Shop) and basically talked to their service manager who has been there for 12 years, first thing he said is that Audi's do NOT RUST, there would have to be a SERIOUS FLAW, (Which of course may very well be that case) Anyway, we took some Audi Polishing Compound, and rubbed it off, it definitly took some effort, and was probably cause by adverse weather conditions, Snow/Salt. From what I understand these cars do not rust, if you see rust on them it is probably on the surface or you have a serious problem. My mother has an A8, and she there was in it from a shopping cart, of course the A8 is aluminum, but when I took it in for the repair the guy at the Audi A8 Aluminum body shop told me that he has never seen an A4, A6 or A8 rust.. The old Audi's are a differant story. Regardless you have a 12 year warranty against perferation corrosion.
-chris

The first sign of rust coming from inside is not rust but a swelling of the paint like an air bubble it will take a while to show up as rust and it can't be very small. If the paint is not damaged from outside is not rust from the car. It is probably metal particles stuck on the paint that rusted. You can probably brush them off.

I followed a previous advice from someone on using a claybar for small rust particles. All I can say is that it took off all the small rust particles (it looked like it came from the inside) and was pretty easy.
Hope this helps!
Hi everyone,
The rust what I have in my car was originally a small bump in the paint.
And there was no visible signs of damage in the paint surface. (The location
of this (these) rust spot(s) are one inch below window in the rear door).
But now this bump has revealed the rust below ...
I am going to take some pictures from it and ask some profs. to
evaluate it, before I go to dealer.
Thank You for all help.
Mika
Ps. Funny thing is that I still like my car a lot. I actually knew three years
back that A4 will be my next car. This rust thing must be very rare and I
believe that Audi will take it seriosly.
