Went to the book store last night. In the April issue of <i>Evo</i> (a British automotive magazine) I saw a small blurb on a "hotter" S4 in the works. According to the article, the RS4 is being developed to compete with the new M3 (I'm guessing the next generation one, not the one currently on sale in the US). This RS4 will have <b>400 hp</b> ...I think they mentioned that it will do 0-60 in under 5 seconds. The car is being developed by "quattro GMbH" which is the new tuning/styling arm of Audi. No price mentioned and no word on if it will be coming to the states but it will be shown in September at the Frankfurt auto show. And for all you Avant lovers out there, there was no mention of an Avant RS4 :-(<br>Andy Hedin<br>'97 A4 1.8Tqms, Wett 1.0 Bar, E-Codes....

Hey Andy,<p>Read your post the RS4 sounds cool. Quick question though, at the bottom of your post where you list your car and mods you listed "E-Codes" What is that? What does it do? Fill me in please, and if this is something common then please dont flame me.<p>/s/Dan<br>Waiting on 99.5 A4 1.8TQM sport everything

"E-code" is the designation for European headlights. "DOT" are the headlights that come on our A4's. For more info about headlights (HID's, E-codes, etc) check out this fantastic website:<ul><li><a href="http://lighting.mbz.org/">Stern Lighting</a></li></ul>

Hmmm..in the article they made absolutely no mention of MTM. In fact, they briefly discussed that the RS2 was co-developed with Porsche but for the RS4, they kept all the development in-house in their new tuning arm, quattro GMbH. I did see that article in EC...I guess I'll have to go back and re-read it though. Sorry to re-hash old topics.<p>Andy Hedin<br>'97 A4 1.8Tqms w/mods<br>

Andy's report is correct. This is not the MTM modified S4, it is a new car from Audi and Audi's new motorsport arm. Reports I have read have indicated 400hp from the 2.7l or a twin turbo version of the 3.7l V8, none have been consistent. It will be based upon the new PL46 platform which will replace the current b5/6 platform from which the current A4 and Passat are currently based. The word is that the Audi version will be a coupe to replace the old URQuattro and will be somewhat radically styled. I have read no mention of it being available in sedan form, but I would assume they would build one. However, one other note, they did say an Avant was possible as well - so we can only wait. Don't look for it sooner than 2003 though.

I don't doubt that it says that the car was tuned by MTM. But my impression of that article (and I could be *way* off base here) was that MTM took an S4 and tuned it up for more HP. The short article I read in <i>Evo</i> is a factory car developed in-house. I'll re-read the EC article tonight and post a reply either tonight or tomorrow.<p>Andy Hedin

I'm aware of the Audi--MTM connection and I would agree that they are the "unofficial" tuner for Audi. However, from this article in <i>Evo</i> magazine, it sounds like Audi has a brand new "official" tuner named <b>quattro GMbH</b> and they developed this car themselves with no outside help (or none that they admitted to the writer of the article). Anyway, I still think we're talking about two different cars here.<p>Andy Hedin<br>'97 A4 1.8Tqms, Wett 1.0 Bar, E-codes...<br>

I'm at a disadvantage not knowing the Evo article, so I yield to your input. maybe there is a new player.<p>MT atl<br>99 1.8TQMS MTM,Klasse,K&N,H&R/Bilstein

Does anyone know what the R stands for in German, ie Porsche RSR, Audi RS4 etc? Thanks.

The car mentioned in EVO has absolutely no connection to MTM at all. It is the same report that has been circulating in various euro and uk magazines for several months. MTM is currently developing upgrades for the S4 which will range from a simple chip swap for 300+hp to a 500hp monster. The development of the car will be done in house with the help of the new motorsport arm of Audi.
