Well, a few days after resetting those light, -voila- they're back on. And this time, since we didn't buy the car at Schaumburg, no loaner. Audi will cover rental for anything over one day, so the most we'll be out of is one day's rental. Actually, this time the "Check Engine" light blinked for a while, indicating not to drive too much further. All that for a two-second misfire?!?
I do have to stress that Tony at Schaumburg Service has been extremely nice about it and said that we have a standing high-priority appointment anytime we can bring it back, and they'd like to keep it as long as necessary to find out what the hell is doing this. The engine light comes on and stays on when the car starts poorly, since cylinder #3 appears to be mis-firing on occasion during cold start. At this point, I really don't care about an occasional choke/cold cylinder misfire, as most cars I know do this on occasion, but the light is becoming a real annoyance. Can you say "remove the stinkin' bulb ! " . . . . . ?
My 944S misses occasionally upon startup, but doesn't turn my dash into a christmas tree! So do my two Mustangs. They're a mechanical beasts that rely on fuel combustion, and I can understand that they'll misfire when cold. This new OBD is a pain in the ass! What, every time a cylinder misfires after warranty is up we gotta go shell out $$$ to have the stupid thing reset?!?
Venting done . . . . sorry!
Big O '98 1.8TqMS usually on four cylinders, rarely on three, but crying "Wolf" all the time!

Last time I asked about that: "Hey, so if #3 is misfiring, shouldn't the plug or injector be replaced . . ?!?". The tech, who was quite nice and knowledgeable, said that that isn't always the cause but they'll watch it if it happens again.
So here I am. Next . . . . . plugs? Injector?!?
I'm willing to be fairly patient, especially since they've been nice. A good attitude goes a long way with me . . . . .
