Anyone in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana area have a PES system that I could come look and listen and maybe drive? I live in Dallas, and be willing to drive a few hours...
Also for the rest of you PES owners, are you running aftermarket exhausts? Tony said I probably should, but I'd like to keep the noise level to minimum. Someone out there just replaced the rear muffler he said and it seemed fine....any comments?
Also...how many miles do you guys have with it on and any problems?
Thanks!
Rob
Rob, Amro, anyone else seriously considering the PES - how about working up a discounted group purchase form Tony, sim. to a post a couple of weeks ago in the western region? Not sure what became of their effort, or what your time schedules are, but it could be a good way to get a few of these in this area.

I am running a Remus exhaust only. I would HIGHLY recommend this for the PES kit. They seem to work well together, and the Remus is relatively quiet compared to other aftermarket exhaust setups.
I have had the PES system on the car for 3 or 4 months now, and have had no problems. I just got the new rev of the chip, which is the version shipping with the current kits (since I got one of the first chips, I was running a much older version). It is a marked improvement. The old chip ran richer. This one seems more crisp and according to PES, is running closer to OBDII spec. I guess the stock 1.8T they have and are monitoring is adding or taking away somewhere between 5% and 7% of fuel. The PES chip on the 2.8 kit is adding or taking away around a max. of 2.5%! In a nutshell, I have no idea what this really means. However, it sounds like a very good thing. ;-)
Lots of people have had questions about fuel economy, so I am finally starting to measure that. I am 1/4 way through my tank now. When it gets down another 1/2, I will refill and calculate the fuel mileage.
Mike

The chip always ran within OBDII spec, and has not triggered any "check engine" lights. What I was referring to is the window that OBDII allows. According to PES, there is a window of + or - 25% as far as how much fuel the ECU will add or take away to ensure an optimum mix. The less it adds or takes away, the more optimally the chip is tuned. This is my understanding, but I do not claim to be an expert.

What kinds of emissions inspections do you have to pass?
I just started thinking about it...and my state (VA) is really cracking down. In fact, my 1972 911 has to pass emissions now. Fortunately it is allowed pretty leniant standards and it doesn't go on the dyno.
- Josh
- '98 A4q 2.8
- '72 911T

I guess we will soon see, but I don't expect any problems with emmissions testing. The car runs on the rich side at full throttle, which I suppose could effect emmissions? They are testing for emmissions at idle here in MA, so I wouldn't think there would be any issues. However, this is certainly not my area of expertise, so I am just theorizing at this point.

I keep flopping back and forth between the supercharger and just getting an S4.
Amro
What a dilemma...huh?

Let's see... I've had mine for about 1,000 miles. Not very long. I've been running the stock exhaust. I have a Brullen sitting in the shop waiting to be installed when I have time to go by. I will let you know if I perceive a difference. My gas mileage has dropped to about 17 mpg (on a 1998 FWD tiptronic). The mileage drop feels well worth the added fun of the car.
If you're considering the PES kit versus an S4, I can't imagine making that choice without driving both first.
Rick R.
1998 A4 2.8 PES/tip/sport/bose
