Has anyone had any success polishing out scratches in the A-4's clearcoat finish? I've been using a Meguiar's pre-wax paint cleaner, which does OK with very shallow scratches is you apply enough "elbow grease", but I'm talking about scratches that go deeper, but not deep enough to actually scratch/remove the base color coat. Suggestions please.
Thanks,
Bruce

you are better off living with them. I wouldn't want to remove that much clearcoat if the scratch went deep enough, which would be the only way to get rid of it. Minimize how much they show with a high quality wax.
Mike

I have an early 98 europa, so its a dark colored car and i have the same problems. Anyway i talked to Meguiars and suggested i buy their electric dual action polisher and use their professional line instead of their consumer line(red containers). Hopefully this weekend i could
do it with the polisher, if my order arrives. just e-mail me sometime next week and i would report how did the electric polisher do instead of elbow grease.
ToNyG3

I think it may have more to do with Meguiars products than the Porter Cable. I used the Swirl Remover #9. I did three passes like they recommended and the stuff was a bear to get off. I added more swirls trying to get the Meguiars stuff off. The Meguiars polishes are tough to use. I like the 3M Imperial Hand Glaze much better for hand use. I have only tried the Meguiars #9 with the polisher.
I used 100% cotton quality department store towels that have been washed a few times. I'm going to try those soft cotton (flannel like) detailer towels with the red thread on the edges next. I think it was the removal of the product that caused the swirls.
For those interested, you can get the Porter Cable polisher at www.coataltools.com for cheaper (it's the 7424 model and is the same as the Meguiars one) and then just buy pads from Meguiars.
Mark (98.5 black 2.8 QMS with swirls)
