I purchased the Factory Cell Phone Mounting bracket from Audi after I had purchased the car. Installing the mount was easy, but it won't lock into place within the armrest. It seems the mounting plate does not lower enough to catch the locking pin. Does anyone know if there are different Cell Phone Mounts for later 98 A4's? I told the dealer that I have a 1998 A4 Quattro 2.8 and he verified it was the later model by looking at the VIN. This is supposed to be the right part.

Ken,
It's a drag eh? The dealer ordered the wrong part. The problem is removing the wrong one! I had to take mine to the dealer to have the correct one put in. Works OK now -but frankly the whole cell phone thing doesn't work as well as it should. I.E. When the phone is out of the armrest it is dangerous to use it, because you have to take your eyes off the road. You end up removing the phone and dialing with it in your hands then returning it to the cradle for the "send" bit of the call.
Good Luck.
1998.5 2.8 30v Q 5spd Audi Cell Phone

I gave up trying to fit a Nokia 5110 into the armrest. I was supplied with a 'Smart' mount which clips on the top and bottom of the air vents above the centre console. This allows me to operate the phone whilst driving, the only down side is that you do have a visible car phone mount. But once you get used to it it is a far safer way of using a handsfree installation.
Alan.

Phil,
It was installed by a car installation company in the UK, I'll try and find out more info, this adapter was specifically made for the A4. The 5110 is a Digital phone, but I think it has been superceded.
Alan.
