I'm currently driving a 98 1.8TQM and would like to get more power out of the tiny turbo. I know the best way is to get it chipped, but i think a 200hp (chipped) engine would not be able to meet my demand especially after reading C/D review on a 2.8TQM vs 328i. The weight penalty & quattro really hinder the high end performance. That's why i'm looking for a turbo upgrade. Probably, somewhat in 240hp-280hp range. I have just found out Wett has a turbo package for $2495 (which is quite expensive). Do any of you know if this package comes with KKK-04 or other thing? Please let me know what kind of turbo upgrade you have and how much is it going to be?

Thanks very much.

I got the wett turbo kit, which include k04 turbo, chip and filter. So far the kit is OK! I still waiting for wett to send me a new chip, but the k04 turbo is great.
Greedspeed is offering a kit with the K04, chip, thermostat and fan switch for $1450. Now this is for the B5 Passat which is what I have, but the engine and turbo are all the same. When I emailed them about it, he said that they are taking pre-orders and I think that he said that they have two more available and that was last week.

People spend much more than that for much less power gains! This deal is a steal! The Neuspeed deal is even better. Also look in the archives.
Tomasz

From talking to wholesalers, the K04 is probably about an $800 item and the chip cost is nominal. A good deal would be to buy the K04 from the wholesaler and the chip for $179 (best price I can quote).
Vendors may want us to consider placeing a value on the hp gain, irrespective of the true cost of providing us with this gain. This method of valuation would certainly work to the advantage of some vendors.
I can't say that I considered the $2500 option. I did go with the $1450 option, not just because the price is better, but I have had good experiences in the past dealing with Neuspeed products.
Regards,
Doug
