it may sound weird but i just found out that the civic si coupe is being introduced soon into the usa. it is going to have 160 horses and 15 inch wheels. could it actually be faster than a 1.8TQ or maybe even a regular 1.8T(less weight)? handling no question(A4).

You are going to have to drive these 2 cars and make your own decision. I've heard of comparison shopping, but this one is a doozy.
Interesting comparison, Civic vs. A4. If you're looking for something fast with decent handling, and could live with something Civic-sized: Definitely check out the Golf GTI. The current VR6 model is a rocket, and should run circles around a stock Civic. And the upcoming Golf IV should be much more A4-ish (smoother, quieter, nicer interior, etc)...
Drive the next Civic, then the Golf IV, and you'll make the right decision...
AJL
98 Passat 1.8T

...I hope the quality is better than that of my '93 Civic Coupe EX, which I drove in and out of the service department two years too long! Should move pretty good with the 160hp though.
Charles

I'm sure that there are lots of cars that are faster than a 1.8T and cost a lot less money, too. Ultimate speed is not why most of us here drive A4s. My previous car was a Sentra SE-R that was arguably faster in a drag race than my 1.8T for about half the price, but even though I really liked it for the years I owned it, it couldn't begin to compare with the comfort and features of the A4 (not to even mention Quattro).
Doug G
98 1.8TQM
