Recently my daily commute has been tainted by a squeaky clutch. It sounds like a slow "crreeeaaaaak." A guy in the archives says they replaced his entire clutch. Another said that seemed like overkill. I recently drove another's 1.8T and noticed that his shifter was much smoother than mine and his clutch spring was much looser. How can I take some of the clunk out of shifting? Can I have them reduce the tension in the clutch petal? Should I set up a mouse trap for the squeek?
By the way, would rubbing some kind of lubricant into the manual shifter joint help??
David

Whatever you do, don't use a spray lube like silicon. It aggrevates the problem in
the long run. Trust me. ;-)
My squeek required a new master (or slave) cylinder. The dealer lubed the pivot
and other parts with the appropriate grease, as well replaced the shims. It did not
work. My clutch has been squeek-free now for 15K miles.
E
86 4KS
96 A4QM

I had the same problem a year or two ago. Lubricaton didn't work. The dealer had to replace something (I think the master cylinder--would have to check my records) under warranty. Fixed it for me.
richard b
96 2.8 QM
