Does anyone know if it is possible to pick up 12v from the RJ45 connector in the center console? Is it necessary to jumper the transceiver box connecter in the trunk? I've looked throught the schematics, FAQs and archives, but have not found the answer. But not being an EE, I may have it right under my nose! Thanks.
Mike

Mike,
Yes you can. You have to use the 25pin connector in the trunk for this. What are you trying to do? What I have done is routed 6volts thru the RJ45 connecter in the center console. I use this to just charger my cell phone/or power it without the battery. In the trunk, the 25 pin connector is the key player...i forgot the pin outs off hand (but i do have them)...what i did is connect the switched 12volts (controlled by ignition so no power when car is off...you can opt for unswitched power) and ground pins on the 25 pin connector to a voltage regulator which brought it down to 6volts and then i connected that output 6volts and ground to the other 2 pins in the 25 pin connector (those 2 pins are the ones that go back to the RJ45 connector in the car)...then you connect the wires from whatever you're going to attach to whatever 2 of the 8 pins of the RJ45 coincide with the 2 pins in the 25 pin connector in the trunk. Believe me, it's easier than it sounds...if you want more detailed info just ask me or email me...
Jason

Any of you guys want to document how you installed your mobile phones and post it in FAQs?

Below is the Answer from the archives from David Pinus!!
This should be added to the FAQ because it is very useful!!!!
Paul
In Reply to: How do you remove cig lighter? Long
on June 28, 1998 at 14:08:02:
Christian,
A very easy to get 12v power switched AND unswitched is to connect your phone charger to a cut-up ethernet cable or other 10-baseT connector (RJ-45). Use any pins you want - but remember which numbers you used. Next, find a Male DB-25 connector from an old printer or modem cable. Using the chart below make the appropriate connections depending on weather you want constant 12v power or
ignition-switched power.
The RJ-45 (8-pin) connector on the floor is for the handset and all 8 lines run to the 25 pin transceiver connector in the trunk. Two of the lines seems to be shielded (pin 7, 8). The 25 pin connector in the trunk is where all the major connections are made.
Here is the pin list for the 25 pin connector:
pin 23 - RJ45 pin 1
pin 8 - RJ45 pin 2
pin 11 - RJ45 pin 3
pin 12 - RJ45 pin 4
pin 18 - RJ45 pin 5
pin 24 - RJ45 pin 6
pin 1 - RJ45 pin 7 (shielded to pin 14)
pin 6 - RJ 45 pin 8 (shielded to pin 14)
pin 14 - Mike (-)
pin 15 - Mike (+)
pin 25 - Speaker (-)
pin 19 - Speaker (+)
pin 20 - shield for pins 14, 15, 25, 19
pin 3 - Ground
pin 17 - Ground
pin 5 - Switched Power (fuse 8)
pin 16 - Unswitched Power (fuse 37)
pin 4 - Same as above
pin 10 - radio mute line
Enjoy!
David
