WARNING! This was posted by a future A4 owner going temporarily insane waiting for delivery. :)
During a recent/frequent call to my salesperson, I inquired as to the status of my A4. Based on previous reports, I was expecting the car this week or early next week. My salesperson told me it would likely be another three weeks since the car has not arrived in Halifax yet.
I was just wondering if anyone knows how accurate the order status information the dealer provides is. (considering how antiquated their whole ordering system is)
For instance, how does Audi know when a car arrives in port in North America? Is there actually a rep. for Audi at the port who insures the inspection is completed, it is loaded onto a train (or whatever), and informs Audi it is now en route to the dealer so they ca formally change the status code?
I can see how they could accurately track the car while it is entering production or in production or en route to the German port. But after that...
TGB 1999 1.8T qMS (almost in port, or so Audi would like to have me think..)

...since I was once in the same boat, I'll give it a shot.
Has the dealer given you the car's VIN? Using it, you can call Audi of America's client advocacy folks to find out where your A4 currently is. The whole thing is set up on a computer database which I found to be pretty accurate. The dealership I bought from was worthless.
Once the car's in port, it might sit around on a trailer for a week or more waiting for a trucker to show up and haul it to the dealership. My car sat in its trailer for nearly two weeks before it was finally en route to delivery. This was one of the more maddening periods during my wait.
I assume you've checked the FAQs here and reviewed Audi's production codes.
Good luck!
J.Russ
Pelican blue Avant QMS (4.5 months in the waiting)

The info that the dealer gets is accurate, but the info they give you may not be. Someone at the dealer (usually the sales manager) gets printouts all the time about the order status of every car coming to that dealership. They know the day it is finished being built, they know when it leaves Germany, they know when it arrives in the Port, they know when it gets loaded on a truck, and they know within a day or two when it should arrive at the dealer.
The thing is that they don't always tell the salesperson that info. So the salesperson has to do a little tap dance to keep you happy because a lot of the time he has no clue - just like you. At the Audi dealership I worked at, they would usually tell us when our customers' cars were in the port at Houston, and we could usually judge when they would come in. There are a lot of variables that figure in, though to how long the cars take to get to your dealer (condition of the car, number of cars at the port, weather condtions en route to the dealer, etc). Then once it's at your dealer they have to PDI it and prepare it for delivery. That could take a day or so depending on how busy the service department is.
Plus, the last thing a dealer wants is to over promise and under deliver. If they tell you the car will be there in 4 weeks and it takes 5, you get upset. If they tell you 6 weeks and it takes 5, you're happy.
JohnS

I have reviewed the production codes and my dealer tells me it is still on the boat. I guess he must have said it was on the boat before it really was..
I do not have the VIN yet. I guess I have never asked for it. I thought AoA does not give status information over the telephone anymore..
Maybe you are right. He says three weeks now but it may be here in 2... I HOPE! :)
Thanks for the info!
TGB
