A friend just emailed me the link for the S4 detail here. Have I died and gone to heaven? Can anyone tell me if Audi will import an S4 Avant to the US? (Former owner of (2) 86 black and red 4KCSQ sedans, "between" quattros right now)

The April issue of EC brings this news.
Personally, I don't like this at all. I have dreamed about S4 Avant, I could probably live with the sedan, but I feel a bit insulted by Audi with their last moves.
They butchered the performance of the S4, they are going to offer it with an automatic transmission and yet they are puting the engine in a SUV! I hate SUVs.
For the last year I planned to trade in my '95 M3 for an S4 - now I'm having second thoughts on this ...
Peter
I'm lucky enough to have an S6 wagon, the perfect winter car for my Boxster.
IMHO, Audi will only imports their high performance sports wagons into North American market when other car makers have done this category successfully.
If Subaru imports the Legacy RS-B and GT-B (B for bilstein springs) wagons, Impreza WR-X ST-I wagon into North America and sells successfully (it should be!)
If Mitsubishi imports their Galant based Legumn VR-4 Super wagon and sells well. This car should turnaround Mitsubishi's struggling situation in US (we don't have Mitsubishi in Canada, anyway)
If Mercedes imports the C43 and E55 versions of C and E-class wagons, Audi may feel the heat of enter the ultra-luxury high performance wagons with S4 and S6
If (I meant a big IF) BMW imports the E46 M3 wagon and 400 hp M5 wagon, Audi may feel the heat once again only IF BMW builds these two awesome wagons (in my dream).
If (another big IF) Saab really builds the powerful 9-5 Viggen wagon to go against other high end performance wagons, Audi may feel the heat again.
The worse thing is the only high performance wagon (V70R AWD from Volvo) doesn't sold well in the marketplace. Audi only thinks its too risky to enter high performance wagon market.
The last is we CANADIAN don't even get the A4 1.8T and 2.8 Avants here North of the border, S4 Avant is only a dream after all.
Tom
97 A4 1.8TQMS
99 JETTA GLS 2.0

A4 Club Of Vancouver

Well, I understand your point, but I think there's a really low risk for Audi to import S4 Avant. The parts are already here, since they have to keep them in stock for other Avants - I don't think there's a single part for a S$ Avant that there's not used for S4 sedan or A4 Avant ...
Similarly, passing the emission tests is a non-issue, since S4 and S4 Avant have the same drivetrain.
I think that the only reason Audi does not want to import S4 Avant is the image. They might fear that the Avant availability would somehow affect the hot-rod image of S4.
Well, I'm sorry to say that the Tiptronic availability does the same for me :-(
Peter

From all the comments here it sounds like I'll have to "build" it myself. Have been saving all the related back issues of European Car Magazine. I really need the wagon version of this car now because of the need to be able to haul the kiddies and gear around. Thanks for the feedback.
