Just a reminder: the current Passat body style was introduced as a 98 model. These models share many components w/ the a4 includng the 1.8T and 2.8 engines.<br>Pre-98's are the older style Passats which used different engines (VW's VR6, and a VW's 16v 4 cylinder and 1.9 TDI engines). The older Passats also have horizontally mounted engines as opposed to the current longitudinally mounted engines-- allows for use of Audi's quattro system, and better weight balance.<p>You probably already know this if you're in the market for a Passat. Just thought i'd throw in my .02.
