A few days ago the topic of optimal tire pressure was touched on in a thread; this got me to thinking. According to the chart on inside of the fuel door on my Avant, a tire pressure of 36 psi for all tires is indicated. My question is, is this the maximum pressure (to be used, presumably, when carrying four passengers and some cargo), or is this the recommended pressure for all occasions? When my car came from the dealer, it had 28 psi all around, and that is how I've kept it since. I know that there is always a trade-off (e.g., gas mileage vs. comfort) at any pressure, but I'd like to hear from others (particulary Avant owners) concerning what tire pressure they have found to be the best.
