I started and completed the install over the weekend. More specifically, I started on Sunday late morning and worked on it in stages and finished Monday night. The total time was about 14 hours. I did the whole thing by myself, by the way. The buddie I had lined up to help me had to beg off as family commitments and work came first. I bet that a first timer with a helper could shave at least two hours off that time. I really could have used another pair of hands.
The engineering that went into this kit is amazing! Tony, you should be VERY proud! All the parts are first rate, beautifilly fitted and finished. Everything went together as advertised and the instructions and documentation are excellent. Let me repeat that, the documentation is excellent! Lots of pictures and very complete descriptions of every step.
It is a really tight engine compartment. As I worked through each stage, I was continually impressed with the use of stock mounting points, the quality of the CNC machined parts that make up the kit, and the thought that went into the install. There are no corners cut or half baked fixes. The end result looks incredibly stock.
The engine fired right up and ran smoothly. I let it idle for a few minutes while I checked connections, looked for "lost" tools and got ready for a test drive. I pulled out of the driveway and immediately noticed how much bottom end there was. Lots more torque than stock. About five minutes into the trip things got rough and the idle got all lumpy. When I got back I called Tony and we checked a bunch of possibilities. It was late, the lighting in the garage was bad and I decided to call it a night. Way too tired to figure much out at that point.
I came back after a good nights sleep and immediately noticed that the boost pipe had popped off the throttle body. I repositioned the clamp and tightened it a bunch more and things were back to normal. Now out for a real test drive!
Driveability is great! Throttle response is much better than stock. Just a little dab will do ya! I also got a few inquiring looks from bystanders when I went whizzing by! What the heck is that?
I have yet to explore the redline range, but there is really some serious speed there! Just pulling out into traffic, you don't need to go past 1/4 throttle to beat all the other cars.
I will try to get a photo of the finished product soon. I could not get a digital camera for the weekend but will try to take a shot and post it. I decided to paint the supercharger black to go with the beautiful powder coat done on the boost pipe and other hardware. Looks Great!
Feel free to fire any questions to my email. rbandler@dataworks.com

What effect does adding the supercharger have on the factory warranty? Does PES provide any sort of warranty? Thanks.

it's the same as any other aftermarket part...according to SEMA and "the law" the burden of proof is on Audi to show that the aftermarket part caused any trouble before voiding any or all of your warranty. However, a supercharger is one of those things that are probably damn easy to show cause more engine and drivetrain stress...so good luck getting a new clutch or anything replaced on the engine itself. You'll fight tooth and nail there.
Now, if your door falls off or power washers die, that should be covered.
stevebrown
