In the last few days the GALA feature in my A4 has started acting up - volume changes as I keep a steady speed, abrupt changes when I accelerate, volume increases as I decelerate, etc.<br>So, the question is, don't they just have to replace the radio unit? I'll probably take my car in next week after I get back from Ohio.<br>Anyone else had this repair done?<p>JohnS<br>

They went away just as abruptly as they came. I got this sneaky feeling that the audi tech is not gonna be able to "reproduce the problem". :-(<p>Steve S.<br>97 2.8QM

It satrted to do that funny volume changes at constant speed. I turned the unit off and on again. It was normal again. Never happened again.

It is probably the volume control. This is a common problem on the A4, at least on the Delta radio. GALA volume changes are barely perceptible, whereas the problem you're describing usually results in dramatic changes in volume. My dealer suggested that it was GALA and turned the feature off, but the problem persisted. It happens so infrequently that I haven't argued to get the unit replaced. However, I only have 1,000 miles left on my warranty, so I may reconsider.<p>Try this - with the car off, repeatedly and slowly turn the volume control up and down one detent, and see if you end up at the same volume you started at.<p>Kyle

I've hardly even noticed the GALA feature working on my 99 A4, despite the fact that I set it at "5" (maximum, I think). Well, once it seemed as if the volume turned down when I came to a stop from about 40 MPH, but it could have easily been that the music I was listening to entered a soft passage. I thought GALA was going to be a lot more noticeable - I find myself turning up the volume manually as I increase speed.

Mine does this too. Eratic changes in vloume have occured when the car is at a standstill!! There might be a Techinical Support Bulletin on this problem, but I can't remeber where I saw it.

My '98 Delta GALA has abrupt volume changes also, whether GALA is on or off. If I touch the volume control and move it one detent (usally down) the volume actually increases! Very annoying, especially when the wife wants me to turn it down and it goes up. Arghh. I've never noticed the GALA do what is supposed at any time.
