With all the praise of the V1 detector, I'm very close to ordering one. As I searched through the archives, more questions popped into my head.
First, is the remote display worth it? The question was bounced around, but I don't feel like a definite answer was determined.
Second, if you hardwire the unit where the ashtray/lighter is (like Christian J. Long) is there still a place to connect a standard 12V device like a cell phone power adapter?
Thanks,
Howard Kim
98 A4 1.8tms(neu)

I don't think you want a remote display unless radar dectectors are illegal in your state or something.
I ended up powering mine through the #27 rear wiper fuse, which was vacant. It was real easy with the supplies they give you with the V1. I can give you the full instructions once you get thte V1, just email me.
Christian

Actually I've found the remote display useful. One problem I have without it is that people will follow me quite closely - often in my blind spot - when they see red LEDs by my rear-view mirror. Naturally, this is dangerous, in addition to being annoying. The remote display lets me get the display away from where other drivers notice it.
In case it's important, I mount my V1 directly under/behind the rear-view, with the rear antenna peeking out. Your mileage may vary with mounting location!
-matt
98 30v
I live in Minnesota where (at least for cars) radar detectors are legal. I bought the remote for a very simple reason: You don't always know who's behind you. The enforcement agencies HATE radar detectors, and if they see you have one have been known to switch off their radar and follow you until you decide to open up the throttle a bit. Also, the flashing lights can be a bet overwhelming when they are located so close to your eyes. It's only 39.95, and you have a 30 day money-back warranty if you find you don't find you need it.
