Are the following problems normal for an A4Tip? Both of the below issues normally occur when the car is cold.
1) Even after allowing the engine to warm up, the transmission will allow the engine to rev pretty high before upshifting. This happens during the first one (or sometimes two) starts from a stop. Normal or a problem?
2) The brakes sound like they are grinding during the first few stops. The grinding sound always disappears once the brakes have warmed up. Normal or a problem?
Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks,
M. Ivy
Black/Ecru 2.8QTS

You will find that first shift of the morning is always slow. Mine normally occurs at 3000 RPM. Be a little gentle for the first few minutes and all will be smooth and silky. We have been told this is due to emissons control. Audi want to accelerate the warm of the motor for emission sake.
The brake grinding noise is most likely the removal of the surface rust that develops on the rotors over night. I have noticed this on all the disk brake equipped carsI have owned.
So don't worry and enjoy your Audi A4
Roy M 98.5 2.8q Tip

gets the catalyst warm...don't think waiting for the engine to warm up will override it.

steve
