My wife sneezed while driving and left a yuk! mess on clear instrument shield. I grounded her and cleaned shield with damp terry cloth towel. Left swirl marks. Recommendations anyone?

Wax (non-abrasive types only) does a decent job of covering light scratches on plexiglass. (Actually, even furniture polish, such as Pledge, does a good job). It will also give the plastic a "clearer" look, almost making it look like it isn't there in the right light. If this doesn't work to your satisfaction, Meguiars makes plastic polishes that you could look into.
A damp terrycloth towel shouldn't have scratched the plastic in the first place, however. If the towel itself isn't at fault, maybe the plastic had a lot of gritty dust on it? If the towel was the problem, it will also be a problem when/if you wax.

I think 3M has some products that will take care of that.
Go to http://www.3m.com and then click on the automotive site.
I think they have a plastic polish product.

Well,... not really, but has anyone try the PalmPilot screen cleaner like Brain Wash or Screen Clean?
Just a thought,
Cris

Most plexiglas cleaners found at Fish Stores (Petco perhaps) are actaully pretty good, especially for minor scratches. The first time I used it, it did a great job. One thing I noticed though, was it looked and felt like "Armor All". Wonder if Armor all would do the same thing? Just my $ 0.02.
HermanH
98.5 Passat 1.8tm

Good advice.
I've tried Merg. plastic polish and cleaner, the small bottle specifically for glasses and instrument panels, not the vynil cleaner stuff (17?, I think) and was not very pleased. It had some alcohol which dried out the plastic and did not do too much for the scratches. The plastic protectant left some bad splotches on the instrument panel too. Yecchhh.
I ended up using the Pina colada from Zymol, which is a fair bit better, and doesn't attact dust.

Mecquiars makes a seperate plastic polish and plastic cleaner. Used together, these will take deep scratches out of platic. I used to use them on the plastic rear window of my Miata, and the results were amazing. I had a few pretty deep scratches and they removed them completely. I could not believe my eyes.
Ian
