Ok, I talked to AutoThority's sales manager again this morning. His name is Pat (he said you can emial him at apeinfo@erols.com or ppdesarno@yahoo.com(home), or call, their number is on the bottom of the info page on their website, whihc is very old). Here are the answers to the questions asked last night.
1. The chip is their OWN. Not a re-badge. The reason they can have lower prices is because evrything is done in-house. They don't need to bring the chip in from Germany and the re-sell it.
2. It is not socketed. They take the original chip and re-program it. You can't tell it is a different chip by looking at it. He said the dealer would have to take the ecu out and compare the maps to a bone stock ecu to notice.
3. Down time is 1 - 2 days. You send it to them they next day air it to you!
4. They usually don't upgrade the software often, but in the past Porsche upgrades have been about $100, this is for a new major version of the software though. I mentioned how someone here posted that the dealer erased their chips codes. He said he has never heard of that, but if it happened he would re-program for free. He did mention that some BMW dealers have done this in the past, but didn't think Audi could.
5. Ok, Group Purchase. if we can get 5 people (I'm one so really just four others) he can give us the chip for $345.95, that includes the cost of shipping. And if we get more people the price could be cheaper.
He is a very nice guy. I talked to him about other chips, he had nothing bad to say, just that he believes in his product. If people are interested in this group purchse let me know, you can get me at cciccone@teleglobe.com (work) or ciccone76@aol.com (home) I personally would be interested in purchasing within the next two weeks. I'm going to visit their facilities this coming week for a tour. If any Audi owners are in the area (northen Va. ) and would like to come let me know. Later guys.
Chris
