The last night my 96QM's the service indicator for "OIL" came on.
I took the car for 22.5K service about a month ago, so I know I don't have to rush to the dealer for an oil change.
I found the instructions to reset the indicator but didn't work ("OIL" didn't get cleared in the display as I pulled out the clock set button).
Therefore, I have two questions:
1. Did anyone try this instructions? Did you make it?
2. Can the dealer reset this indicator? I would like to do an oil change every
4,000 - 5,000 miles instead of 7,500 miles.
Nozomi
----------------------------------------------------------------
The instructions I found in the archive:
* Switch off ignition
* Press and hold the trip odometer button (the button which resets the trip odometer) located just to the left of the
speedometer and switch on
ignition. The display will now show "service OIL"
* PULL OUT the clock set button (to the right of the tachometer) and hold until the letters "service OIL" are cleared in the display. The display should now show "service ---"
* Press the trip odometer button again to display "service INSP" and clear it in the same way by pulling out the clock set button
Didn't someone say that only the dealer can reset the 96 - 97 models??
Cris

I also just had my 22.5K service about a month and a half ago, and my indicator Tuesday came on for "In2". I think that the dealers either aren't resetting these, or somehow the "time" thing comes into play (I've heard too many explanations to really care anymore).
Anyway, this doesn't really bother me like some of the more obsessed on this board. It's not as though there's a deafening alarm or something. It goes out after a minute, or, if you prefer, push the knob in for a second or two (like you would do to reset the odometer) and it goes away. And, no the instructions don't appear to work on '96s and '97s.
Tom
'97 2.8q

Sorry I must have missed the information for 96s and 97s in the archives.
Now I can avoid breaking these knobs by trying hard. :-)
Nozomi
