So I drove the 400 odd Kilometers to Ottawa today to have a new "Stebro" Cat Back exhaust installed on my 1998.5 2.8 30v. Firstly I would like to give Stebro a plug. Their product is excellent -all Stainless Steel. It is owned by two brothers one is a Swiss trained mechanic (one of those guys you know can make anything with an engine goes very fast) and the other is the business guy. They have Cat Backs or just mufflers for all models of A4 at very resonable prices. My complete system cost under $650 US including all Canadian taxes (15%)
Sorry about the quality of these photos - Taken with my Netmeeting Camera!!
Anyway it is quite easy to install - only 4 bolts to be undone and 6 to be done up. The Cat Back comes in 2 halves (ease of shipping). All the hangers 5 in all unclip off the existing system and onto the new system (with alittle WD40) very easily.
Now for the sound. Very quiet at idle, quiet at constant speed, deep and throaty and is only noticeable from inside under hard acceleration from 2000rpm to 3500rpm.
Performance. Well my car has a TAP chip and a RamAir filter to start with - I can hardly believe the imrovement in acceleration!! Remember the 400 km drive home! Now when I floor the car at 140kmh the speedometer almost jumps to 180kph (you really feel it in the seat of your pants!!)The exhaust has given by far the most noticeable increase in Horsepower and Torque. If you were playing with the idea - GO FOR IT - YOU WILL NOT BE DISSAPOINTED!!
GK
1998.5 2.8 30v Q 5spd
