I have about 12,000 miles on my 98.5 2.8QM and the shifter feels really loose to me. I cannot tell if it is just my preception or if something is worn or loose in the linkage.<p>While in neutral the shifter has about 1 1/2" inches of total right to left play (3/4" on each side from the center). And also about 1" of play front to back (1/2" in each direction).<p>I never rest my hand on the shifter and such. Is this the type of play all A4's have or do I have to make an unscheduled warranty appointment.<p>Please let me know what others are experiencing.<p>Thanks.<p>Eric

...I wore out the shift socket in my 90Q. Actually, I pulvarized it! Cost about $125 to replace. That's the socket in the console, BTW, where the shaft pivots. Might have the dealer check this. Otherwise, maybe a bushing in the linkage is bad. Good luck!<p>Charles<br>
