The first Wett 1 bar chip I received for my 98.5 1.8TQMS caused my car to run for about a minute at a time and then stall. It would always start right back up but would never run for about a minute or two without stalling. I called Wett and Kelly was very willing to work with me to get things fixed. I was very impressed with the service Wett provided. They overnighted a new chip, with an older version of the software. This fixed the problems. I still want to determine whether it was the program or the chip itself, so Kelly is shipping me another chip, with the new version of the software to try. Again, great service!
It took me about 40 minutes to install both the chip and the air filter. The chip took 10 minutes and the air filter about 30. The air filter they sent me had "Neuspeed" written on the filter element. Could this be an OEN version of the K&N filter?
I took it easy for about 5 miles, letting things warm up. In this "taking it easy" driving, I noticed no differnce at all. As soon as things were warmed up, I took it back some of the long, desolate straights here in rural Lancaster County. WOW!!!! I power above 3000 RPM is wonderful. Big difference. You notice only a little difference below that. But in second or third gear, when the tach hits 3000 RPM at about 3/4 throttle, POW!. Very nice steady, smooth surge of power all the way up to 5000 RPM where I would shift. That would take me to about 3000 RPM in the next gear, so the strong surge of power was continuous. The surge continued all the way to 100 MPH, where I had to let off because of lack of road, but believe me, it is still accelerating strongly at that point. You are much more aware that this is a turbo charged engine with the Wett chip. There is a greater sense of turbo lag, which you don't experience too much in stock form. The extra power, though, feels very natural, like the car could have came that way. You don't mistake it for a Z28 or V8 Mustang, but the power is very strong.
WELL WORTH THE MONEY! The power the chip provides and the service Wett gives you after the sale are a enormous bargain for the price. Now the trick is restraining myself from staying off the boost!
Ian
98.5 1.8TQMS Wett

Ian: well, never let me be the one to say "I told you so" but Wett sure takes care of their customers, don't they? I'm happy that your positive experience has been added to the Forum. I'm still waiting for my chip to get to me, and I'm really jealous. Enjoy!
Rob

Great to hear. I e-mailed four major chip makers and I can tell you that Wett took time to answer all 15 of my questions. they even sent me a copy of the EC article. I can sure tell theat they really do value their customers! It showed clearly in the e-mail. Sorry to say that I can not say that for ANY of the other replys.
Question: What chip worked? Was it the old or new software revision?
Why did they say the 1st chip did'nt work for you?
Thanks!
Saving for a chip
Ty
99 1.8t

Wett, TAP, or Hoppen. Does anyone know how much boost Hoppen's Stage 1 chip provides?
What made you guys go w/Wett? Was it the customer service issue, was it the fact that their chips provide more power than the others?
JT 99' 1.8Tqms
