Hi,
I'm planning on having the Bose headunit replaced with the Blaupunkt Toronto and was wondering if there were any concerns with using the speakers. I understand that they are amplified in some manner, and didn't know if this would cause some problems. Has anyone done this? If so, were there any concerns? I just want to be prepared and have everything in order. Thanks in advance.
Phil.
98 2.8QMS
Phil,
I just replaced the Audi Delta head unit of my 96 2.8 with a Sony CDX-C680 CDP/Radio. I'm now having problems with FM reception and I need a different antenna adapter to turn on the A4 antenna amp. Also have disturbing background noise through the factory amps - currently looking into a fix. I'm not too worried about alleviating these problems though - should be pretty straightforward. Also have Sony changer in the trunk. I will probably keep the factory (Bose) system speakers...
good luck.
I had this setup as a transition to a full install. I had changed the head unit (with external amps) before changing the speakers. The sound I experienced was not that good. I think Bose uses alot of equalization to compensate for the different components.
The speakers in my Bose car were 2 ohms so you will need amps that can handle that type of load.
The factory Bose amp is located under the rear deck in the trunk (driver's side).
I don't know if others in the forum have attemped to hook up an aftermarket head with the stock amp and speakers. If you really want to better the sound, I would suggest doing a simple full install (head, amp, speakers).
This is just my opinion though. Sound is very personal so many different systems will be suitable to different people. Good luck!
Eric

"I don't know if others in the forum have attemped to hook up an aftermarket head with the stock amp and speakers." - that's what I did (see below). However, I really did this to get an in-dash CD accessibility (sp.) and direct access to my changer rather than improve the sound to any great extent. (I'm much more interested in home audio than car audio).

I did. I replaced the stock headunit with a Clarion DRX9375R (which has no power output). I ran a 1 ohm stable 50*4 amp with output connections spliced into the stock harness that goes into teh bose amp. It was a b*tch, but when i finished i had a better sounding system and it can be taken out in under an hour when i go to sell the car. ALSO, send high pass only to the front speakers, it makes a world of difference.
